About Adele House, MA,
RD
After
a lengthy and fulfilling career in the theatre as a production stage manager,
I received my bachelor's degree in nutrition sciences from California State
University, Los Angeles. I accomplished my goal of becoming a registered dietitian
(RD) by gaining practicum experience at Kaiser
Permanente, AIDS Project Los Angeles and Project Angel Food, where I worked
as the staff dietitian, counseling men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS.
Later I obtained a master's degree in psychology from Phillips Graduate Institute
and am now a pre-licensed marriage and family therapist (IMF# 48375). By combining Cognitive,
Postmodern and Gestalt therapies (what I call Awareness Therapy), I have incorporated
my experience in nutrition counseling with my existential psychotherapy practice,
thereby working holistically to integrate mind, body and spirit.
Currently, I see individuals, couples, and work partners in my private practice. I specialize in issues unique to entertainment, especially writers and artists, and in concerns specific to the gay and lesbian community. My recent research on whether intimacy levels play a significant role in the sexual frequency among couples was published in the professional journal, PROGRESS: Family Systems Research and Therapy.
In 2006 and 2007, I served weekly as the resident therapist and relationship expert on the nationally syndicated radio show Women Aloud, where we discussed a wide range of mental health and relationship issues.
